Unilever has hailed its R&D teams in Port Sunlight and pledged its support for innovation in the North West.
The consumer goods manufacturer has been named as the latest sponsor of the Merseyside Innovation Awards as part of a wider partnership strategy with the business increasingly looking at the Liverpool City Region as a key part of its innovation ecosystem.
Jonathan Hague, vice president of open innovation at Unilever Research and Development, said: "We have a strong track record in innovation and a very large amount of experienced intellectual capital in our R&D teams at the Port Sunlight Laboratory.
"We are looking for ways to use the things we are good at to benefit the local economy so getting involved in the Merseyside Innovation Awards makes great sense.
"We are always looking for the best and brightest to help the business evolve. Our partnership with University of Liverpool is one the most important partnerships we have for building new capabilities for innovation. This benefits the university, Unilever and the wider city region.
"Applying our expertise in creating groundbreaking innovation to the Merseyside Innovation Awards means we can use our experience to really identify those entrepreneurs who are truly breaking new ground."
