Training and physical activity

Elite is a specialised training company that employs highly experienced teachers and coaches who work with digital technology to improve physical activity and mental health in young people. We use digital platforms such as fitness trackers, software and applications to assess pupil performance and engage in goal setting through e-learning.

What prompted you to develop it?

We decided to create this social enterprise because we wish to modernise the delivery medium of physical activity in primary schools and engage young people in new  and exciting ways. Previous pupil accomplishments are the strongest determinant of self-confidence in young people. By setting personal bests each week, young people identify fitness improvements in a fun and objective way whilst developing positive connections with others. At the moment, less than 50% of 5-15 year olds manage to complete 60 minutes of physical activity stipulated by the Department of Health.
See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hxIFno8FiI to see why we think it is needed.

Is it in production or use?

Although other companies have used some digital devices to engage young people, we are not aware of any companies that combine this with an apprenticeship delivery programme to upskill people.

Who inspires you?

Roger Federer

What do you hope to achieve in developing this innovation?

This programme will have an extensive reach in local primary schools, reaching approximatively 1000-1500 pupils in the first year. The training process will create apprenticeship jobs in schools and create a legacy of objective data collection when participating in physical activity. Activities will also engage parents and other stakeholders within the school community and coincide with key events during the sporting calendar. For example, the World Cup or the London Marathon.
