Synchronous Virtual Reality

vTime is the world’s first sociable network in VR, allowing you to meet, chat and share with your friends and family, in beautiful virtual destinations, no matter where they are in the real world

What prompted you to develop it?

Virtual Reality is a powerful new technology, but due to the very nature of the hardware required, it can be very isolating and unsocial. We wanted to harness this new technology to allow people to do what they have done since the dawn of time - meet, chat and share with family, friends, even strangers - but with VR they don’t need to be physically together, they can do it from virtually anywhere in the real world

Is it in production or use?

vTime has been available for download in Early Access since December 2015, and currently has had over 700K downloads, with thousands of active users in over 190 countries.

Who inspires you?

With regards to vTime, our users! We launched vTime in early access to get as much feedback on how, when, and why vTime is being used. The ways our users have responded never ceases to inspire us to improve and grow the network.

What do you hope to achieve in developing this innovation?

Commercially, we are looking to build the ultimate platform for sociable engagement in VR. However, we are aiming higher than that. In a world where we have never been more connected through technology, as a society we have rarely been this disconnected. Technical innovations of the last 15 years, in particular asynchronous social networks, have fostered digital narcissism, polarisation of opinion and nationalism. We hope that vTime, being a synchronous, non-geographical experience, designed to get real people really talking, can help to break down some of the social misconceptions and territorial barriers which exist in the world today.
