Hear Ear is a securing clip for BTE (Behind the Ear) hearing aids to help prevent loss/damage. It is unique as it has no metal contact parts and is suitable for all ages as it complies with European legislation.
I was prompted to develop it as my mother was always losing her free NHS hearing aid. She had lost 4. "NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF ALL INVENTION." Strong interest was shown in 2014 by audiologists and ward staff when she was an inpatient as they said that too many people lose their hearing aids and require replacements. It takes away precious time from caring when looking for the lost aid. I was encouraged to have it manufactured as I had made the prototype myself for my mother.
My innovation is now being marketed as Hear Ear and has been bought by individuals and hearing aid suppliers. I have interest being shown by hearing aid manufacturers who wish to add it as an accessory to their portfolio.
My 90 yr old mother, who, since wearing Hear Ear has not lost her hearing aid in over 14 months. She has dementia and lives in a care home but feels socially included when she is able to hear instead of being excluded when the hearing aid was lost. She can interact and communicate with staff and other residents. It is to give her the best quality of life.
I hope that by developing this innovation it will help to reduce the financial burden on the NHS for the cost of replacements. Funding may be made available for new patients who need hearing aids as the budget is being squeezed in that there will be restriction of the issue of hearing aids and charges introduced for replacements.
