Improvisation-based Performance and Training

Impropriety are one of the NorthWest’s premier Improvisation companies. Formed in 2008, we became a Community Interest Company in 2013. We create excellent quality improvisation performances within theatres, schools, boardrooms, festivals, training halls… indeed anywhere that would benefit from an injection of creativity, fun and improvisational thinking. We also provide workshops for schools and businesses. We aim to increase the awareness of improvisation both as a performance medium and as tool for business and education.

What prompted you to develop it?

Impropriety has been in existence for over five years, but it has been in the last year that we have stepped up and taken moves to build and realise our aspirations. We have seen a growth in demand for our performances and training products and aim to increase our customer base for both. At the moment there is no other company offering what we offer in Merseyside and we are keen to establish ourselves as the 'Go To' company for Improvisation based Performance and Training in the area.

Is it in production or use?

Yes, most recently we conducted a series of training workshops for local schools, two performances at high profile city centre theatres, and formed a partnership with Hidden Liverpool. We are in talks with one of those theatres to develop a multi-school programme of training and performances (funding dependent).

Who inspires you?

Working closely with Canadian company Die-nasty has been an inspiration. They are world leaders in the field, and remain true to the spirit of Improvisation.

What do you hope to achieve in developing this innovation?

We aim to continue to produce high quality and unique workshops and performances throughout the Northwest and for our client base to grow substantially. By doing so we will be able to provide employment for our performers/facilitators in accordance with Equity Guidelines. We want to be associated with providing quality products to quality organisations. We aim to increase the awareness of improvisation both as a performance medium and as tool for business and education.
